F1 Standings: Can Anyone Stop McLaren In 2025?

The 2025 Formula 1 season feels like chess at 300 kmh. Why? The field is tighter than ever – the gap between the frontrunners and the backmarkers is as razor-thin as less than a second – making every point a hard-fought victory.  Every spot in the F1 standings 2025 plays a role.

And the stakes couldn’t be higher. This season boasts a compelling mix of talent: six rookies hungry to prove themselves, a two-time champion seeking to reclaim his crown, a four-time titleholder battling to stay on top, and an eight-time legend still defying Father Time.

A Few Words On The F1 Points System In 2025

The F1 points system determines the championship

Drivers earn points for finishing in the top 10 on Sundays (25 points for 1st place, 18 for 2nd, 15 for 3rd, 12 for 4th, 10 for 5th, 8 for 6th, 6 for 7th, 4 for 8th, 2 for 9th and 1 point for 10th place) if they complete over 75% of the race distance.

The FIA dropped the trophy for the current season, so there are no more points for the fastest lap.

However, drivers can earn additional points in sprints, with 8 pts for 1st down to 1 point for 8th.

The Main Contenders For The 2025 F1 Tittle?
  • Top Five: Norris, Piastri, Russell, Verstapen, Lelcerc
  • Main Rivalry: Norris vs. Piastri. The battle between Norris and Piastri at McLaren is already one of the season’s most compelling stories – more explosive than a Shakenthan bottle of Coke with Mentos ready to burst at any moment.
  • Dark Horse: Andrea Kimi Antonelli. Is Mercedes’ rising star, Andrea Kimi Antonelli, the next Senna or Prost? Keep an eye on him.
  • Hamilton’s Quest: Lewis Hamilton, now with Ferrari, is on a mission to recapture past glory.
  • The Main Struggler: Max Verstappen and his Red Bull.
Max Points in F1: What's the Most a Driver (or Team!) Can Score in a Single Weekend?

The ideal scenario for any F1 driver?

Dominate from start to finish. Here’s how to bag the maximum points:

  • Win Sunday’s Grand Prix: That’s a sweet 25 points right there.
  • Win the F1 Sprint Race (if applicable): Adding 8 points.

That will be a full house – 33 points per weekend, lifting them up in the F1 standings.

F1 Constructor’s Championship Dream: 58 Points

But it’s not just about the individual glory! The Constructors’ Championship is where the teams battle it out. So, what’s the maximum a team can earn in a single race weekend?

  • 1-2 Finish on Sunday: Securing the top two podium positions brings a hefty 43 points to the team (25 +18).
  • 1-2 Finish in Saturday’s sprint (if applicable): Both top positions can get 15 points.
In summary, on an F1 weekend, the dream is:
  • A driver can get 25 or 33 points overall (with sprint).
  • Teams can max 43 or 58 points overall (with sprint).

However, raw speed is only one piece of the puzzle. Winning in Formula 1 takes more than just having the fastest car. Despite what McLaren might think!

Success also depends on a driver’s ability to withstand punishing G-forces, navigate unpredictable weather conditions, and harness their mental strength. Individual driver personalities and the human element can make or break any race.
