Kalle Rovanpera became a game changer as he was crowned the youngest ever WRC championship winner. While Toyota Gazoo Racing strengthened the manufacturer’s championship title. With this in mind, we start the WRC 2023 season.
The championship begins with the Monte Carlo Rally and ends with Rally Japan in November 2023. But hey, no one guarantees the story won’t repeat. At least two teams are ready to prevent Toyota’s ovation and to make it possible to argue for leadership.
Thus, Hyundai Motorsport looks more than convincing. It has changed the team’s philosophy and reduced unnecessary expenses, as well as its programs. The head of Hyundai, ex-Formula 1 Renault team principal Cyril Abiteboul, is one of the big surprises from the bag. It’s not the last one either. Our four-day adventure includes 8 stages covering 325.02km.
Each pampered eye will enjoy the evening’s start ceremony in front of Monte-Carlo’s famous casino. What could be more pleasant? Yes, that’s all about sound, as crackling at the top makes sense for audio performance.
Let’s prepare for night views, as La Bollène-Vésubie / Col de Turini (15.12km) and La Cabane de / Col de Castillon (24.90km) are driven in darkness.
We will head further north for two loops of three stages covering 105.34km on Friday. Morning promises a lot of sun, while Roure / Roubion / Beuil (18.33km), Puget-Théniers / Saint-Antonin (19.79km) promises many tricky turns. It makes sense, as service has been scheduled for Friday only after 7pm (local time). Yes, it needs to look at the tires in advance.
Alpes-de-Haute-Provence is the destination for Saturday. Unforgettable 111.78km of competition shared between Le Fugeret / Thorame-Haute (16.80km), Malijai / Puimichel (17.31km) and Ubraye / Entrevaux (21.78km). The tyre fitting zone is the same in Puget-Théniers.
Sunday. We are going to head to the Alpes-Maritimes for 67.88km competition. Luceram / Lantosque (18.82km) will lead us to the beginning, to La Bollène-Vésubie / Col de Turini. We will hold the awards ceremony at the most fashionable place, Casino Square.
