The motorsport world’s hearts are broken. The WRC, Formula 1, and other racing series are saddened and gutted by the horrific news of Craig Breen passing away.
After the 13th of April, everyone who knew and didn’t know Breen personally lost words. No one was indifferent to the feelings of Craig Breen. His infectious smile and a huge passion for racing won the hearts of fans across the globe.
He hadn’t any rivals, but he had many friends. He was so simple and close to rally fans; it is still unbelievable that we are writing this post.
Still so young, Breen was on the way to success for Hyundai Motorsport with an impressive nine podiums over 82 WRC starts.
But in vain.
The pre-Croatia Rally test accident was fatal.
Breen and his co-driver, James Fulton, got up to speed for the fourth round of the WRC Rally Croatia. The pair left the road in their Hyundai i20 N Rally1 car and crashed.
The mix of dire circumstances made Breen pass away. His co-driver, James Fulton, wasn’t injured but was shocked. The Hyundai Motorsport team is also in shock.
It is not a secret that Croatian roads are challenging, but who knew these are so dangerous? The accident directly raises many questions to Croatia Rally organizers and this leg, as many locals pointed out that this road is very unsafe, especially in rainy weather.
Another issue is the car. There will be too many things to blame, but it is what it is and is hard to believe. The FIA World Rally Championship lost the brightest rally driver. The unfair crash and dire turn are still complicated to accept, as we will never see him at the podium again.
Rally Croatia will be held as scheduled for 20-23th April, but it will be a ride with thorny hearts.
Craig Breen passed away, but he will still be with us til we remember him, and we always will remember him with a smile on his face.
We sincerely condolences to Craig Breen’s family, friends, teammates, and fans worldwide.
