2022 Baku Grand Prix: Key Stories In The Focus

Do you remember how long ago the first ever Baku Grand Prix started? Formula 1 race through streets in Azerbaijan debuted in 2016 and caught the hearts of race fans from all over the world. Why? Because it is always a unique and unpredictable event! Besides, there are three key moments ahead of 2022 Baku Grand Prix that adding the tension. Let’s focus on these.

Formula 1 racing weekend in Baku. Just imagine the race track as narrow as the current Monaco street circuit and as spectacular as in Bahrain? There are many more epithets you can use to describe Baku City Circuit, but it would not be enough. One thing is for sure – 51 laps of racing action during the 6.003-kilometre with 18 turns is what we’re set for. Besides, the drivers are also preparing for the race, someone even harder, as the in the eve of last circumstances it makes an enormous sense. And we have three main storytellings.

Ferrari versus two Red Bulls

If Carlos Sainz added a bit to his pace to race alongside the teammate, it would be more difficult for Red Bull to overtake Prancing Horse’s lead.

Scuderia Ferrari needing to maximise their opportunities with both cars. Just a month ago, Charles Leclerc was leading the F1 drivers standings. But all of these had been happening in the background of the problems that Red Bull drivers had time after time. Since Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez pulled up, Ferrari still had a chance, but they lost it.

In the Spanish Grand Prix, Charles Leclerc simply had to win, because he was the fastest. However, because of a power unit issue, his victory was erased from his record. A significant F1 Grand Prix at Monaco made you cry in tension, as the team strategy snuffed out all the hopes of Scuderia fans. One positive point was that Carlos Sainz finished second.

Yes, this will be a tight championship battle. But here in Azerbaijan, the Prancing Horse’s team can’t afford to make the same mistakes. And if we’re talking about the key stories of 2022 Baku Grand Prix, then Scuderia Ferrari is in the centre of attention.

Why are there two Red Bulls in the case?

No matter what is happening inside the team, Sergio Perez is in the title mix alongside Max Verstappen. And not for nothing, the team extended the contract with the Mexican driver for two years until 2024! The victory in Monaco is proof that Sergio Perez will run as fast as he can and exert as much effort as possible.

In addition, Max Verstappen’s teammate will be looking forward to the Baku Grand Prix in 2022 after winning the race in Azerbaijan just a year ago. He was extremely impressive around the Baku City Circuit, turning a sixth place starting position into an eventual outright victory.

Therefore, Sergio Perez is a key figure that is making headlines ahead of the weekend.

Still rising Mercedes.

After the race in Spain, the next Grand Prix offered a new opportunity for Mercedes’ George Russell and Lewis Hamilton. Drivers got the car upgrades to handle the major headache – bouncing. The problem was copied partly.

Barcelona came as a watershed race weekend for Mercedes, as they were much more competitive. But Monaco was a step backwards once again, with the bumpy and tight street circuit not suiting their car.

George Russell has finished in the top five in every race since he started the F1 season 2022 as Lewis Hamilton’ teammate. Neither of them has enough speed to compete with Ferrari and Red Bull. Despite the situation, Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff is optimistic. Eventually, he believes, they will fix all the problems and shine like no other.

Another reason to pay attention to Mercedes is that the 2022 Baku Grand Prix will be a city circuit. This means that it has to be suitable for Lewis Hamilton and George Russell. After all, the race track is different to Monaco. So either they will make the breakthrough, or that will be a crucial fall.

Toward the 2022 Baku Grand Prix, the focus is on the driver’s market.

Two drivers on the grid are under additional pressure. The case is about Mclaren driver Daniel Ricciardo and Haas F1 driver Mick Schumacher.

Daniel Ricciardo seems to be always smiling, always laughing, and always ready for a fast race or a joke if the first one doesn’t work. The Formula 1 driver’s market operates under different rules. You always have a very short time to show your abilities. In other words, there are already a lot of super talented drivers behind you, ready to show you something you can’t.

Daniel Ricciardo had changed many F1 teams in a short time. He left Red Bull to join Renault. After leaving Renault, he joined Mclaren. Although, Australian didn’t repeat the results that he had in faster Red Bull. Daniel Ricciardo won Baku GP in 2017 and this week he needs the results. In comparison with Lando Norris, Daniel Ricciardo does not race as impressively. Someone says Australian needs more time. But he had enough. One says the problem is in the car, but Ricciardo has enough experience to get used to Mclaren. In simple terms, the time goes by, but there are still no results.

What is going on in the driver’s market? Racers in F1 2022 are already snooping on the most promising opportunities for the next season, because the changes came early. Social media is focusing on Fernando Alonso, Sebastian Vettel, Daniel Ricciardo, and Mick Schumacher.
